April 6, 2022 - Cartagena, Spain

Ahh.  Sunshine.  Finally.  Today we arrived in Cartagena, Spain to a lovely sunny day.  It was slightly cool but not bad.  The harbor of Cartagena.

Our shore excursion is a walking tour around the city.  There were a number of lovely Modernist Buildings.  These date from the early 20th century and are basically Art Nouveau. 

And we saw one interesting Modernist building that a very modern glass building right on top of it.

There was interesting art murals on the sides of some of the buildings. 

Streets in the old town were pretty narrow and picturesque with lots of shops and places to eat or just sit and enjoy a drink and the scenery.

The history of Cartagena dates to the Phoenicians and Romans.  So, the tour included a fair amount of ruins.  Saw the Roman amphitheater down the street from our walking route.

And there were plenty of other interesting street scenes.

We took a tour of the Casa de la Fortuna, a small Roman House.

They know the name of the house because it was inscribed on a stone in the floor.

We also visited the Santuario de Isis, which included a bath complex.

We had a short break in the middle of the tour for shopping along the main street of the town.  We opted for some very awesome hot chocolate.  It was extremely thick...so eating with a spoon worked very well.

Took photos of the lovely city hall...

then climbed some stairs to the very impressive Roman amphitheater ruins.  The amphitheater was only rediscovered in 1988. Most of it has been excavated…it is a pretty impressive place.

Then it was back to the ship for lunch and a restful afternoon.
