Mary was under the weather today, so Paul headed out on the tour by himself.  The tour was into the hills near Marseille.  Saw some lovely countryside on the drive to Fontaine de Vaucluse.

The countryside included many limestone cliffs.

Fontaine de Vaucluse is a quaint town…

known for its Spring coming out of a chasm.  On the walk to the spring.

The spring is fed by rainwater seeping through the limestone cliffs surrounding the spring. 

  

Sometimes the water is high – up to the white line above the chasm.  Today it is low, but still feeds the river by coming out down a way in the chasm.  The chasm has been explored by robots down to 1,000 feet, still not at the bottom. 

The area is surrounded by limestone cliffs.

There were a few waterwheels in the area.

A paper mill.

Then it was off through the countryside…

to L’Isle sur la Sorque, a quaint village situated on an island made by the Sorque River.
